Since 2003, Fireball has provided incident mapping and GIS services for hundreds of wildland fires all over the Western and Mid-Western United States.   Available services include helicopter-based airborne mapping and observation, spot-fire monitoring and post-burn damage assesments.

How it Works
  • Support services are ordered with a dedicated Type III helicopter or as a portable system that can be used with most any agency-owned or contracted helicopters
  • Experienced infrared operators fly the incident perimeter as needed, typically several times per day
  • Maps containing fireline perimeter information are printed and distributed, often within 20 minutes of landing
  • Digital data is shared with other incident GIS personnel
  • Incident briefing maps are generated (up to 42")

Intelligence in Time to Make a Difference means that the infomation Fireball produces, whether on digital or printed maps, is produced in a format that is immediately actionable. Our primary goal is to help reduce the containment costs and reduce the extent of damage in every incident we support.
